Brief description of the prototype:
The prototype lets in water from the middle, the pump pushes the water through the filter located in the top half of the bottom part of the prototype; the bottom half is hollow and filled with air to maintain buoyancy. The water then escapes from the product through the bottom hole. The 4 small holes seen at the bottom of the product are for the chain attached to the anchor to hold the product in place to make it does not drift away. The product is also very sustainable as it is powered by the solar panel on the top and therefore can operate independently. Filtration method: The pump pushes the water downwards through the filter and out of the product through the bottom. Since the pump has flushed out the water, more water will enter through the middle as water cannot enter from the bottom as the pumps force pushes it away from the holes and therefore the cycle of the filtration of oil and microplastics can continue within the product. |
As shown, the picture on the left, due to the buoyancy of the product, the water will enter through the desired hole as shown.
